I remember the scraping sigh of metal folding chairs, cheerful swan plastic napkin holders and the ideal spot beside the tireless hands shaping pregnant tortillas.
Waiting for customers in Tepoztlán's market. Freshly baked bread as well as brooms, firecrackers, mole, loofahs and more.
There are still a few copies left of the limited edition letter press version of the Lotería Jarocha.
Click here to find out more about the Lotería Jarocha game and to order your own copy. After the last post I thought I should reveal the actual print made from the woodblock that appears at the top of the pile in the photo. Getting close to completing the series of woodblock prints for JonArno's Book "The Hobo's Crowbar". To make these blocks Mexico City based luthier Alvaro Avitia and I laminated thin sheets of wood he had left over from another project, to a particle board I bought in Mexico City's old downtown.
It has taken a few years and my billingual childrens' book La Jarana de Mario/Mario's Jarana will finally be in print with the brilliant design of Manuel Lopez who collaborated all the way from Argentina. The launch is April 29th at the FILU (Feria Internacional de Libro Universitario) in Xalapa, Veracruz. Doesn't look like I will be there but I'm working on doing something in Mexico at the end of June.
